City seeking new council member

| July 17, 2019 1:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — City Council is in need of a new member upon the resignation of Councilman Gary Stewart this week.

Stewart attended his last meeting on Monday, where Mayor Jim Martin announced that Stewart would no longer serve on council because he sold his house and moved out of town. It is, of course, a requirement that council members live within city limits.

Martin said the city will be taking letters of interest through the end of July. The letters will be reviewed and someone will be appointed to the seat by the mayor and council. The person who is appointed will finish out Stewart’s term, which is up for election in November. Two four-year seats and a two-year seat on the Priest River City Council will be up for election at that time.
