Upon every hand the news of Dr. McKinnon’s sudden death brought expressions of pain and sympathy. “He was one of nature’s noblemen,” “Sandpoint will never see his like again,” “He was Sandpoint and Bonner county’s best friend,” were heard from all as the shocking news went from home to home, and people stood in knots to discuss the meager particulars of his death.

BABE BORN TO FIRE REFUGEE
John W. Garrison, his wife and several children, lived near Humbird camp 1, on Grouse creek. Mrs. Garrison was in a delicate condition and, with the approach of forest fires, Garrison Wednesday loaded his family into a wagon and drove 17 miles to Sandpoint, arriving at night. He got permission from Tom Solberg to occupy one of the Humbird houses in mill town. Early the next morning Mrs. Garrison gave birth to a baby boy.
The case has attracted sympathetic attention and the family is receiving the care of neighbors.

WOMAN, LITTLE ONES, ESCAPE FIRE
Mrs. J.W. Lantz, whose home was destroyed in the path of the Wrencoe forest fire last week, was in Sandpoint this week looking for employment. The fire destroyed the Lantz home, their mare, four calves, four head of cattle, five head of hogs and the season’s pulpwood on the skidways which represented Mr. Lantz’s summer work.
