Why should gas be pricier in Bonner County?
I read Bob Camp’s letter to the editor on July 2 highlighting the extreme differences in gas prices between Coeur d’ Alene and Sandpoint. He noted that on June 25, while fueling up his car in Coeur d’ Alene it cost $2.55 a gallon while in Sandpoint on that same day the average price was $2.77.
My wife and I have lived in Sandpoint for nearly 39 years (since late August 1980) and during this time I’ve normally gassed up in Sandpoint, but whenever we travel to Coeur d’ Alene for shopping, business, or recreation, I usually top our gas tank to take advantage of the lower prices.
I agree with Bob Camp and believe that Bonner County residents have been getting ripped off at the gas pump for decades. From my observations on any given day I’ve noted the range of gas prices between the two towns in somewhere between 15 to 30 cents a gallon.
For example: Last Sunday, July 14, my wife and I were in Coeur d’ Alene and the average price for gas that we observed was $2.60 per gallon for regular gasoline. In Sandpoint last Sunday, the average was $2.90
The question needs to be asked. Why does it cost so much more for gas in Sandpoint than for our neighbors in Coeur d’ Alene?
