Library streaming lawsuit hearing
SANDPOINT — The East Bonner County Library is live-streaming a hearing by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to consider a federal government appeal in Juliana v. United States, the youth climate lawsuit filed in 2015. The hearing will be live-streamed beginning at 2 pm.
The complaint, brought by 21 children in 10 states, asserts that, through the government’s affirmative actions that cause climate change, it has violated the youngest generation’s constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property, as well as failed to protect essential public trust resources.
In March, powerful voices of support for the Juliana v. United States youth plaintiffs and their landmark constitutional climate lawsuit filed amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) briefs with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. On March 24 the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals set a hearing date for June 4 to hear oral arguments in Portland, Ore., on an interlocutory appeal and the preliminary injunction.
