Sandpoint High School Tennis Academy sign-ups open

| June 4, 2019 1:00 AM

Sandpoint High School’s tennis program, in tandem with USTPA coaches from multiple states, will hold its annual Sandpoint High School Tennis Academy this summer from July 15-19. Each session will take place from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Travers Park.

The summer camp — which has drawn participants from across Idaho, Washington and California in years past — is open to existing and incoming high school players, or those outside of that range by special permission of instructors.

This clinic will be run by Sandpoint varsity tennis coach Kent Anderson, who, amongst an array of accomplishments, most recently led the Sandpoint girls varsity tennis team to its fifth-straight district title.

Throughout the camp, participants will get the opportunity to work out with some of the best college coaches and pros in the state, including 2017 Idaho State Champion Khloe Kyllonen, two-time district champion Liz Parsley, 2018 Post Falls doubles champions April and Amy Clark, and — the most recent addition to the Sandpoint tennis alumni family — two-time IEL Player of the Year Allura Livingston.

They will be joined by a plethora of pros from outside the Sandpoint program, including (but not limited to), former Big 10 champion Cici Rickert and Lewiston alum Logan Temple, who went undefeated in 5A IEL play in 2016, was diagnosed with cancer during his senior season and is currently a motivational speaker.

Spokane Community College coach John Gant and University of Puget Sound head coach Matt Simons will be on hand for the camp as well.

These pros will be dedicated to the personal development and improvement of each player, as there will be at least one to two pros on every court.

There will be T-shirts and prizes for all participants. Participants must bring daily lunches.

Registration deadline is July 7. The camp will take a maximum of 30 campers, so quick action is recommended. Cost is $90 per person, but there is a $5 city discount available for Sandpoint residents.

Register on the Sandpoint Parks and Rec reation website at sandpointidaho.gov/parksrecreation, or by calling Kent Anderson at 208-610-1201.
