Spokane man charged in fatal crash
A Spokane man has been arrested on a charge of vehicular homicide after a passenger was killed when the Ford Expedition they were in rolled 300 down an embankment Monday afternoon.
In a press release, Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s officials said they were alerted at 3:54 p.m. Monday to a one-vehicle collision on Bead Lake Road near mile marker 8 and found the Expedition about 300 feet down an embankment. The driver, Nelson J. Dunn, 24, of Spokane received minor injuries, the passenger, Hannah E. Dunn, 23, of Spokane was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident and Nelson Dunn was subsequently arrested on a charge of vehicular homicide.
The case is a joint investigation between the Washington State Patrol and Pend Oreille Sheriff’s Office.
Units that responded to the scene included: Fire District 6, South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue, Pend Oreille EMS, Kalispel Tribe Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service, and members from the high angle rescue team from the Pend Oreille Newsprint.
An investigation is ongoing.
