Work dims out N. Branch Gold Trail

| June 21, 2019 1:00 AM

LAKEVIEW — Improvements and repairs to the oft-used North Branch Gold Trail No. 111 are forcing its temporary closure, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The Sandpoint Ranger District trail on the south side of Lake Pend Oreille is expected to remain closed for up to four weeks as crews work to replace bridges, repair the trail surface and improve drainage.

Forest Service employees from the Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry ranger districts and volunteers, in addition to the Idaho Conservation Corps and Youth Conservation Corps will be assisting with the work. Sandpoint Ranger District officials said they recognize the North Branch Gold Trail is a popular trail and will try to expedite the work so that the trail can be open for use by the end of July. While the entire length of Trail No. 111 will be closed during the reconstruction project, there will still be access to Dixie Queen Trail No. 677.

For additional information or questions about this project, please contact the Sandpoint Ranger Station at 208-263-5111.
