June 30, 1969 — WINS BIG TRIP

With tears in her eyes and a big happy smile, Angie Weinand claimed first place in the annual News-Bulletin Disneyland subscription contest. Contest director Max Poulter handed Angie the cash and certificate for a free trip to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm and Marineland during an award program at the News-Bulletin. Angie also had the most bonus points for the final week of the contest, earning her the Instamatic 124 color camera from Allen Rolfson’s Sandpoint Drug, a $10 savings account from Howard Faux of Idaho First National Bank, and steak dinners for four at Ed Hawkins Litehouse, Hope. She also won a set of matched luggage from Skip Rutherford at the Montgomery Ward catalog office.

Angie plans to take her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Weinand, and her sister, Debbie, with her to California in late July.

MORE CONTEST WINNERS

Some youngsters who didn’t win first place in the News-Bulletin contest still came up with some dandy prizes. Greg Fister won $75 for 2nd place; 3rd place winners Linda and Lora Jasman won a four band portable radio; 4th, 5th and 6th place winners Steve Kalb, Debbie Twigg and Marlene Jensen won bicycles. Radios went to 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th place winners Mark Carter, Clarice Martin, Brad Booth and Steve McLaughlin. Roger Cordes, Jim Mendenhall and Peggy Howard won 11th, 12th and 13th place cash prizes.

June 30, 1919 — CIRCUS IN CITY JULY 3

After an absence of several years due to the war, Sandpoint will enjoy the visit of a real circus on Thursday, when Sangers Greater European shows appear here for two performances. The coming of the red wagons and the other dear old characteristics is being hailed with delight by the juvenile populace. It will be the only circus to visit this section of the state this season.

SGT. MEL SOLBERG ARRIVES

Sergeant Mel Solberg arrived home yesterday from Fort Russell Wyo., where he was mustered out of the 21st Engineers with which he saw months of active service under shell fire on the St. Mihiel and Argonne fronts. The 21st was a railroad outfit engaged in bringing ammunition to the fighting lines. They were under continuous shellfire at St. Mihiel and after that engagement went to the Argonne front where they repeated their hot time. Solberg saw many killed but he got by without injury other than being gassed.

CITY BREVITIES

A social will be given at the Westmond schoolhouse today. Ice cream, cake and coffee will be sold, the money to be used for a celebration for the Westmond soldier boys on July 4th. All are invited to help a good cause.
