Dale Duane Thompson, 85

Dale Duane Thompson, 85, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Dale was born in Hayden Lake, ID to Roy and Elgin (Dot) Thompson. He attended schools in Idaho and Montana, making it into the 9th grade. As a child Dale’s parents owned Dot and Roy’s Restaurant in Elmira. He worked in the local mills, logged and spent time with the railroad in Montana.

Dale achieved the rank of sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, serving in Japan as an airplane mechanic. He married Naomi Taylor in Sand-point in 1959. Dale worked various jobs in the woods, the dams and the gas pipeline. Venison deliveries to Buck and Edna’s were pro bono.

In 1961 the family moved to the Tri-Cities where Dale worked in concrete construction for Hanford and the Pasco Mall. He also worked in irrigation for Rainee Water. Dale divorced and moved throughout the Northwest working in construction and auto body repair. Dale and his kids ended up in Condon, OR.

In 1985 he moved to Wenatchee where he was badly injured on the job. After some hard years of recovery he made it back to Sandpoint in 1991. He enjoyed spending winters in Quartzsite, AZ. Throughout his life he was active in veteran organizations and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed music, playing the guitar and banjo. He also enjoyed old cars, fixing things and yard sales. There was never a bad time for a joke. Dad lived his life his way, he went where he wanted to go and he did everything he wanted to do. There wasn’t anything left on his list at the end. We miss him.

He is survived by his daughter Anna (Jeff) Chicks of Sagle; son Roy (Brenda) Thompson of Ponderay; brother Darel (Pat) Thompson of East Wenatchee; four grandchildren Crystal Baines, John Doty, Daniel Thompson, and Sarah Chicks; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous friends and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ray and Dick Thompson, and sister Ruby Lund.
