Another Honda Civic driven by a 16-year-old was also westbound and swerved to avoid hitting Allen’s Civic. The Civic driven by the juvenile collided head-on with an eastbound Dodge Ram pickup driven by Jonathan M. James, 32, of Spirit Lake.

The 16-year-old and James were taken by ambulance to Kootenai Health.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. two miles east of Athol. The highway was blocked for approximately two and a half hours.

The crash remains under investigation, ISP said in a news release.
