Mar. 24, 1969 — SHARE RACE HONORS

Scott Coyne and Ted Farmin, both of Sandpoint, were among the top winners in a series of snowmobile races March 1 and 2 in Fernie, B.C. Over 70 racers from western Canada and the northwestern United States competed for $2,000 in cash and prizes in the races billed as the “Indianapolis of the Snow.”

LEGIONNAIRES 50 YEARS

Fifty-two persons attended the American Legion 50th anniversary dinner Thursday. Honored at the dinner were: Morton Elliott, who joined in 1919 in Montana; Gay Johnson, who joined the same year at Council, Idaho; Thor Larson, who joined at Sandpoint; Guerdon Condon, who joined in Minnesota; and Harold Hunter, who joined in Sandpoint. Not present were Tom Moran, Art Pedersen, Judge Robert McFarland, Rex Allison and C.E. Anderson.

MRS. DELAY SHOWS GARDEN SLIDES

Sandpoint Garden Club met March 17 in the Washington Water Power auditorium, with 20 members and guests present. A St. Patrick’s Day theme was carried out by hostesses Betty Englert and Lillian Bourbon. Mrs. Fairy Delay, Careywood, showed beautiful slides of gardens on the Canadian and U.S. capitol grounds and nurseries in both countries.

The meeting closed with garden gossip.

Mar. 24, 1919 — GLAD TO COME BACK

Dell Van Curler, who, after many trials, got into the army last year and eventually to the trenches, where he went over the top several times and was gassed, is now home with his discharge. He still suffers from the effect of the gas. He says he is glad he had the military experience but is now satisfied to remain in civilian life.

WORK FOR STATE SANITARIUM

Through the local committee of the Society for the Prevention of Tuberculosis, of which Mrs. Hilford Thomason is chairman, an effort is being made to locate one of the two state tuberculosis sanitaria (sic) authorized by the last legislature somewhere on Lake Pend d’Oreille, probably in the neighborhood of Hope. A telegram was sent Monday to Secretary Biwer of the state board of health, saying Bonner county wants to be represented on the commission that will locate the sanitaria, and also wants to be considered as the location for the one placed in the northern part of the state.
