Although Priest River track and field finished third for the boys and No. 14 for the girls at last Friday’s Timberlake Invitational, the Spartans’ stars continue to rise in the rankings.

With their most recent performances, Teagun Holycross, Colby Poe and Annika Rantala have risen in not only the Intermountain League rankings, but also the 3A classification as a whole.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Holycross swept the 100 (11.28), 200 (23.19) and the 300 hurdles (43.77) last Friday with new PRs in the sprint events. He ranks in the top 10 in 3A in all three events.

Poe’s 53-9.5 in the shot put on Friday put him atop the 3A leaderboards for the shot put. Across all divisions, Poe ranks sixth behind five athletes from 5A and 4A schools. Friday’s 147-8 PR in the discus is second in 3A and No. 13 in the state.

Poe ranks third in program history in both throws.

Rantala, meanwhile, used a stacked field in the girls’ 3200 to pull her to a new PR of 12:47.99 — good for fifth in the 3A rankings.

The Spartans will compete at the Meet of Champions in Post Falls on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
