POSC celebrating 10th anniversary

PONDERAY — In just over a week, Pend Oreille Surgery Center will celebrate a big milestone as the facility marks 10 years of patient care.
May 13, 2019 marks the tenth anniversary of the surgery center, which was inspired by two local physicians.
“Pend Oreille Surgery Center, inspired by two local physicians, was constructed in 2008 to serve the health care needs of our growing community,” Kris Sabo, R.N., who serves as the organization’s executive director and administrator, said. “POSC is the first and only physician-owned ambulatory surgery center in the two northern counties providing patient care in orthopedics, podiatry, endoscopy and general surgery.”
In the past decade, POSC has provided quality cost effective outpatient care for over 10,000 patients and performed over 23,000 procedures. The time also reflects 10 years of local ownership by independent medical providers living and working in Sandpoint as well as 10 years of employment opportunities for medical office staff, registered nurses and technicians.
Sabo said the surgery center was started as, and has remained, 100% physician owned and locally managed, with the facility currently owned by Michael DiBenedetto, M.D., Charles Crane, M.D., Jonathan Fisher, DPM, Chase Williams, M.D., and Michael Schicker, D.O.
“As a small business in our community, we employ 19 medical staffers, six of which have worked at POSC since the doors were opened,” Sabo said.
Leadership has also remained consistent. In addition to Sabo serving as the center’s administrator, DiBenedetto serves as medical director and Charles Crane as the orgnization’s board president.
To help patients, Sabo said POSC is proud to offer pricing transparency with posted cash pay package prices for a number of the center’s more frequently performed procedures. In addition, POSC also accepts all local insurance products and provide assistance to our patients in navigating the complexities of their insurance.
Patient satisfaction scores have consistently remained above the industry standard, averaging 96 percent. We have maintained certification with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and accreditation through Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care throughout these ten years, Sabo said.
