May 7, 1969 — SHRIMP HOLD PROMISE
Giant fresh water shrimp introduced into some Idaho lakes hold promise of better fishing. The shrimp, which have greatly improved the food supply in Kootenay lake in British Columbia, have been a major factor in producing larger kokanee, whitefish and Kamloops.
If mysis shrimp become abundant in Pend Oreille, Priest, and other Idaho lakes they can very well send more fishermen whipping the waters of the lakes and streams each year.

KAMLOOPIN’ FISHING STORY
Twenty-seven years ago Kamloops rainbows, magnificent trophy-size fish, were first introduced into Lake Pend Oreille through the efforts of a group of dedicated local sportsmen who led the project for the Bonner County Sportsmen’s Association: Laurin Pietsch, fish committee chairman; Ross Brown, Sandpoint fish hatchery superintendent; Sandpoint photographer Ross Hall, and the late Jim Weaver.

CHINESE PHEASANT AT IGA
A Chinese pheasant hen trying to find shelter and warmth from the unseasonable cold and snow that swept through Sandpoint Tuesday took refuge for a time in the parking lot of the IGA supermarket on Fifth Avenue.

May 7, 1919 — CLASS BACCALAUREATE
Rev. Byars delivered the baccalaureate sermon to the high school graduating class Sunday evening before an audience that taxed the Methodist church capacity. For his text Rev. Byars took from the book of Proverbs the words “In all thy getting, get understanding.”

BOUNTIES DISCONTINUED
A.M. Stebbins, who has had the job of checking up squirrel tails for the payment of bounty by the state, has been notified that the bounty on squirrels has been discontinued. The same applies to bears. Bounty is still paid on the coyote, wolf, lynx and cougar.

NEW CONCRETE JOBS
John Gregory’s home on Lake street has a new concrete sidewalk.
Attorney W.W. Wheelan is putting a full concrete basement under his house at (701) N. Sixth avenue, laying concrete walks about the place and installing a steam heating plant.
Other jobs in progress by Contractor Les Arnett are: Ernest Kitchen, (409) Fir at Fourth, house moved, full basement and sidewalks; Forest Brundage, N. Fourth, walks; George Walker, (521) N. Fourth, walks; Ed Bridge, Humbird Lumber and P.M. Mitchell, Fourth avenue between Poplar and Fir, walks.
H.L. Mountjoy has a concrete job in hand at the home of Elmer Dreisbach (607 N. 3rd).
