Getzlaff purchases hospital
Dr. C. P. Getzlaff became the new owner of the Priest River Hospital Monday, purchasing the property from Dr. Didier.
90 Years Ago — 1929
Town hall to be repaired
In the swearing in of E. J. Petersen and Ed Dalva as councilmen, Priest River now has a complete council of five members. The council meeting was held in the Moon Mortuary office due to the former meeting place not having been repaired since the recent fire.
The repairing of the town hall was taken up and it was the council’s unanimous position that the building should be repaired at this time.
80 Years Ago — 1939
May Day Parade draws many
The May Day parade and track meet proved to be a grand success. The day was ideal and people turned out in great numbers. Highlights were the newly organized high school band with more than 70 pieces and snappy little drum majors in their colorful costumes, and the May Pole Dance at Schaefer’s field following.
Many viewers were surprised to see so many students drawn up in marching formation, and many more found difficulty believing so many could be housed in the school plant.
The outmoded car in the parade made a sputtering appeal to the voters for a new school building to relieve the chronic congestion.
70 Years Ago — 1949
Road bids to open
Bids on improvement of the Priest River road will be opened in Boise May 19. It involves production of 58,000 cubic yards of crushed gravel and 200,000 gallons of road oil.
60 Years Ago — 1959
30-pound Mack taken
Frank Bockemuhl of Newport landed a 30-pound Mackinaw at Priest Lake the past weekend and Jack Corbin, Newport, took a 28-pounder. Cold rainy weather marked the opening of the fishing season.
50 Years Ago — 1969
Named by the Saddle Club
The Priest River Saddle Club has announced that Julie Coleman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Coleman, will be Trophy Queen at the 1969 Priest River Saddle Club horse show June 25 at the Sandpoint Fairgrounds.
40 Years Ago — 1979
Golf course sale completed
Arrangements to complete the sale of the Ranch Club, Priest River’s golf course, were concluded Friday, New owners of the nine-hole, 28-acre course are Jerry and Sharon Martin of Priest River. The Martins purchased the course from Ray and Marion Burns of the Priest Lake area. The Burns acquired the course in 1967 and have operated it since.

Dedication program Friday
The official recognition of the new facilities at Priest River Lamanna High School will be held Thursday. In the past year, a new gymnasium, track and football field, library addition, and a new wing with seven classrooms were added to the school.
20 Years Ago — 1999
Buses are top line
One of the advantages West Bonner School District No. 83 can boast of when it goes out on its own July 1 is its quality bus fleet and drivers. The last of four new buses purchased with District 82 levy money just recently arrived, and a fifth will be delivered in the fall. In All West Bonner County has 21 buses to run 18 routes.

Local mills barely surviving
Just as the weather is unpredictable and ever-changing, so is the future for local sawmills. Although trying to stay optimistic with all the economic woes, most officials from the surrounding area mills paint a bleak picture for the foreseeable future.
