Thompson wins Quilt of Valor

| May 8, 2019 1:00 AM

World War II Navy veteran Jean Thompson has won the April drawing for a handmade quilt crafted by Judy Lockner and Valerie Lamont.

Thompson’s name was drawn April 17 from entries gathered over the last few month. The quilt drawing was unique in that it was specifically designated as a raffle for female veterans in the community. Thompson served in WAVES — Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services — in 1944-’45 in World War II.

This is the fifth quilt donated by Lockner and Lamont to a local veteran as part of their “Quilts of Valor” campaign to honor service members in the area. Entries are being collected by Tri-County Economic Development District for the next quilt.

Thompson’s name was drawn by Liv Stecker, TEDD’s new mobility and veterans services coordinator.

To enter a veteran into the drawing for the next quilt, please contact Stecker at lstecker@TEDDonline.com or call 1-509-684-4571.
