With Meet of Champions behind them, Spartans look to districts

Like Priest River’s Teagun Holycross and Cassidy Prudek know best, clearing the last hurdle doesn’t mean the race is finished.

With the Meet of Champions behind them, Priest River track and field will sprint their way towards the proverbial finish line at the 3A District 1 meet tomorrow, which will be held at Timberlake High School.

For most of the team, districts will be the last meet of the season. Yet for a few standouts, districts will be a chance to improve their lane assignments and seeding for the state meet next week at Middleton High School, down in Boise

By now, the names are second-nature. There’s sprinter/hurdler Teagun Holycross, who nearly broke 40 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles at the Meet of Champions last Thursday with a 40.98.

Or there’s throwing extraordinaire Colby Poe, who is also a lock for both throws.

The girls distance runners of Annika Rantala and Sharnai Hogan, however, could sneak into state in the 1600. Rantala is a lock for the 3200.
