Bullpup boys track wins districts, girls place second

Sandpoint middle school cleaned up the awards at the North Idaho Big School district championship meet on May 2. The seventh grade and eighth grade girls were both second overall, while both the seventh grade and eighth grade boys won team titles.
Unlike most meets, districts are separated into seventh grade boys, eighth grade boys, seventh grade girls, and eighth grade boys. All eight teams from the North Idaho big school district competed.
Plaques were given to the top two teams in each grade level; Sandpoint was the only school to win one for all four groups.
The eighth grade boys was the most competitive group, with four teams in contention for the championship. They scored 68 and edged out Lakeland by one point for the title.
Rusty Lee led the way again: He tied for first in the high jump at 5-2, second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 200 meters.
Evan Dickinson led the distance crew placing second in both the 1600 meters and 800 meters. Slate Fragoso followed Evan in the 1600 placing fourth.
Cody Newhart finished fourth in long jump.
Stirling Roget and Darrian Resso were fifth and sixth in the shot put.
Emmitt Morgan fifth in the 800 meters.
As for relays, the 4x200 team won in a 1:48.10, and the 4x100 was third.
For the seventh grade boys, SMS edged out Canfield 110-94 for the district championship.
Khyrin Riddle led the way winning the Shot put 33-1 and winning the long jump 16-6 and was fourth in the 200 meters. Max Frank won the discus with a 85-11 and showed his versatility by placing third in the hurdles.
Jett Longanecker was second in the 800 meters and fourth in 1600 meters.
Hunter Garcia was second in the 100, and also anchored both the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.
Shane Sherrill was second in the long jump.
As for the girls, the seventh graders scored 68 points to Canfield’s 90.
The girls were led by their throwers. Aurora Miller won the shot put 32-0 and was second in the shot put. Ivy Smith was third in the shot and Discuss and Lauren Harrison was sixth in the shot.
Jesse Crater was third in the 100. Makenzie Eden was third in the 200 and fourth in the 100 hurdles. Aliya Strock was fourth in the long jump.
Like the eighth grade boys, the seventh grade girls’ 4x200 team won in 2:03, while the 4x100 was third.
Over on the eighth grade girls’ side, River City ran away with the event by scoring 121 points. SMS battled Lakeland for second, and edged out the Hawks for second place, 70-61.
Ara Clark and Ayianna Prevost led the throwers and distance crew. Clark placed in all four events: third in both the 1600 meters, the discus, then fifth 800 meters and sixth in the shot put.
Prevost was fourth in the 1600 meters, third in the 800 meters and and fifth in the discus.
Antonella Peitz was second in the 100 and fourth in the shot put.
Anna Reinink led the spinters, placing fourth in the 200, fifth in the 100 and was the anchor for both relay teams.
Maren Davidson was third in 400. Avery Edmundson was fifth 100 hurdles and sixth in the high jump.
The 4x100 relay won and the 4x200 took second.
