May 9, 1969 – HOUIDOBRE PROMOTED

Ralph J. Houidobre has been promoted to staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Sgt. Houidobre, a site development specialist at Minot AFB, N.D., is assigned to a unit of the Strategic Air Command.

His wife, Anita, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter M. Thom of Rt. 1, Sandpoint.

1969 GIRLS STATE DELEGATES

The annual Girls State tea was held April 27 at the Sandpoint First Lutheran Church. Sandpoint delegates are Linda Finney, Patty Krum and Christi Cogswell. Alternates are Leslie Tatterson, Susan Johnson and Laurie Taylor.

CROY TO HEAD FLY FISHERS CLUB

The Pend Oreille Fly Fishers Club met at the Hope School April 29, with election of officers the main order of business. Paul Croy was elected president; Phil Brashear from Clark Fork, vice president; Stan Sisson, secretary-treasurer.

PVT. ALLEN IN SIGNAL SCHOOL

Pvt. Stanley W. Allen, 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph R. Allen, Hope, was recently enrolled in the U.S. Army Signal Center and School, Ft. Monmouth, for intensive training in one of the 50 specialist courses taught there. He is a 1966 Sandpoint Senior High graduate.

May 9, 1919 – CITY BREVITIES

A son was born Monday to Mr. and Mrs. Ed P. La Moreaux of Ponderay.

The steamer Western was unable to complete the trip down the lake Monday, and has since been undergoing repairs, and the Bayview is on the route. This is the first time in five years that a passenger boat failed a trip due to breakdown.

PASSENGERS QUARANTINED

L.G. Jaeger arrived here on a visit to his brother J.P. Jaeger, under unusual circumstances. He was enroute when, east of Billings, a soldier in his sleeper was found to have scarlet fever. The soldier was put off the train for treatment and the car and other occupants placed under quarantine. Health officers along the line were notified to meet the train and take charge of those getting off. Thus County Health Officer Wendle was at the N.P. depot to receive Mr. Jaeger and escort him to his brother’s home, where he will be quarantined until he has passed the period when he could become ill from the disease.

LAST DAY FOR TIN CANS

Saturday is the last day for collecting tin cans under arrangements made with the city for clean-up week. Persons with tin cans they desire the city teams to come after may secure the same by calling up Chief of Police Kitchen.
