May 14, 1969 — NIEMAN PROMOTED

Jon H. Nieman has been appointed assistant vice president of the Equitable Savings & Loan, Assn. of California. Nieman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Al Nieman of Sandpoint. He attended SHS prior to enrolling in the University of Idaho.

BEST WAITRESS

Mrs. Faye Stevens, waitress at the Pastime Cafe, recently was presented a “Grass is Gold” bolo tie by Hugh Hough, chairman of the Idaho Grassman of the Year committee, because, as Hough said, “she is the best waitress we encounter in all our visits throughout Idaho.”

MRS. GERTIE SCHWIN HOME

Mrs. Gertie Schwin returned to her home at 1208 Oak St. on May 2, from a winter’s visit with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hart, Mercer Island, Wash. Her daughter had urged her to winter on the Coast where there is very little snow. During her visit, snow fell nearly every day, with 16 inches coming at one time, the most snow for the area since 1900.

WESTMOND LIVEWIRES

The Westmond Livewires met Thursday at the Jesse Beers home with 27 members present, as well as leaders and county agent Ray Davis.

Virginia Broadsword was elected president and Linda Tarpley, secretary. Those going on the Moscow trip are Bonnie and Diane Beers, Tracey and Chris Irish, Priscilla Mitchell and Kirk Heath.

Northern Idaho News

May 14, 1919 — HOLD SUMMER SCHOOL

Beginning next Monday summer school will be conducted in the Farmin school building for the benefit of pupils who wish to make up work between the regular terms. Four teachers will be employed for the six-weeks summer term.

Lawrence Moon and Malcolm McKinnon drove over the mountain in “Pike’s” big Wescott Thursday.

LOCAL BRIEFS

F.H. LaFrenz, who has been blowing out stumps at the demonstration farm, reports he got 490 out of a little over four acres. The area will be used for federal experiments instead of the south field, which is to be planted to ensilage crops.

Tom Turnbull of Sagle was a visitor at the News office Thursday.

HIGH SCHOOL’S LARGEST CLASS

High school graduating week culminated in the graduating exercises proper, on Friday evening when 28 students, constituting the largest class in the school’s history, received their diplomas at the hands of Director George R. Barker.
