Half-staff flags honor police officers

PRIEST RIVER — Flags in Idaho are being lowered to half-staff today in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

The memorial for law officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of duty coincides with Police Week, which began on Sunday and extends through Saturday, May 18.

Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week were memorialized in a proclamation issued by President Donald Trump on May 10. The proclamation directs governors to of U.S. states and territories to fly their flags at half-staff.

“I further encourage all Americans to display the flag from their homes and businesses on that day,” Trump said in the proclamation.
