May 16, 1969 — HOSPITAL BALLOT

Creation of a hospital district for the eastern part of the county will be balloted Tuesday, May 20, by qualified voters of the district. Election hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Polling places will be at Colburn, Northside, Washington, Kootenai, Sagle, Laclede, Southside and Granite Schools, Clark Fork, Hope, and Sandpoint City Halls, Mt. View Community Club and Edgemere Grange.

YOUNGER SET CAPTURES K&K CASH

The younger generation walked away with most of the large prizes at the conclusion of Kamloops and Kokanee Week. Leading the pack of money winners was Dennis Lambert, 15, of Sandpoint, who boated the largest Kamloops rainbow trout caught by a male over 14. His 31 lb. Kamloops netted him $100 in K&K Cash and his winning fish was mounted free by Jim Thompson of United Artists Taxidermy, Spokane, Wash.

Young Nancy Overholser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Overholser Jr. of Spokane, won first place in the fish registration sweepstakes and went home with $100 in K&K Cash.

Kim Lewis, Sandpoint, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Lewis, cornered the prize for the largest game fish caught by a boy or girl under 14. She boated a 14 lb., 5 oz. Kamloops and won a complete spinning outfit consisting of rod, reel, line, tackle box and assorted lures.

Slater Kalb is still helping his father with fencing and putting in crops. George has gone back to Bottle Bay to help his brother, Harry.

There were 33 present at Sunday school, 17 at the Endeavor on Sunday evening. At the close of Sunday school, recitations were given for Mother’s day or Parents’ day, as it is now called.

Fruit of all kinds looks much more promising than a year ago, if Jack Frost only stays away.

TO TAKE OVER CITY MARKET PROPERTY

Negotiations were completed by D. Fisher for purchasing the Gillette property, 115-119 N. First. The property is at present occupied by the City market, and the auto school extends through to Second, where it is now occupied by Mr. Fisher in his secondhand store and junk warerooms. Mr. Fisher’s intention is to make use of the auto shop rooms himself, and later, if business conditions warrant, he may erect a new building on the site.

FROST DOES BUT LITTLE DAMAGE

Mr. LaFrenz at the experiment farm has had no report of damage done in this vicinity from the cold snap Monday and Tuesday. Apple blossoms were not advanced enough to be hurt. Pears may have been slightly hurt and cherries, which were in full bloom, were touched to some extent, but the blooms were so heavy, the frost did nothing more than to thin them out.
