| May 17, 2019 1:00 AM

Coeur d’Alene star and Season 16 “Voice” contestant, Jacob Maxwell alongside The Powers, a popular Coeur d’Alene folk harmony band will be performing in a free outdoor show at Matchwood Brewing Co. today.

The free outdoor show will take place from 7-9:30 p.m. at Matchwood Brewing Company, 513 Oak St., in Sandpoint’s Granary Arts District.

Maxwell, 20, grew up in a tight-knit family in the beautiful lake resort town of Coeur d’Alene. He comes from three generations of law enforcement and wanted to be a police officer until he picked up the guitar. Jacob auditioned for the Voice and in April, Maxwell made the cut to the top 24 contestants — but only after his coach John Legend used a save to keep his dreams alive. On Monday, April 29, the Coeur d’Alene singer was not chosen for the top 13 after Legend, used his lone save on fellow team member Celia Babini.

Jacob recently posted the following on social media sharing his gratitude for the opportunity to serve on John Legend’s team and compete on “The Voice” Maxwell said, “You made a small town boy from Idaho’s dreams come true, and I hope one day you can know just how much that meant to me,” Maxwell wrote. “To everyone else who watched, prayed, voted, whatever — let’s be real, this is just the beginning, and you’re all gonna be hearing from me real soon. This has only shown me how much I’m meant to do this, and I couldn’t be more excited for what God has in store.”

The Powers are based out of Coeur d’Alene and has a delightful mix of parts from dynamic harmonies with an acoustic guitar to banjos fighting with fiddles. Everything they play finds its way into their style of strong vocal harmony with a folky vibe.

Members of The Powers band include Dan Powers, acoustic guitar, vocals; Shelley Powers, bells, vocals; Sarah Jean, Fiddle, vocals; Annie Johnson, piano, vocals, and Cody Cummins, drummer.
