While it’s clear that adult lack of supervision provided an opportunity for a baby to be assaulted, an equally pressing concern is why the other children brutally attacked the baby. Even if it was a case of “mob mentality,” the children’s behavior was extremely appalling, yet the focus seems to be only on the day care owner’s culpability. The infant is likely traumatized for life; shouldn’t we also be considering the mental health status of the perpetrators and questioning how children in our community could display such behavior?
