Virginia Irene Smith Tenney, 96

Virginia Irene Smith Tenney, 96, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the Valley Vista Care Center in St. Maries, Idaho. Private family services have been held.

Virginia was born on June 3, 1922, in Abilene, Kansas, to Daniel and Mary Bogart. She married Clyde B. Smith in 1940, and he died in 1973. She later married Chet Tenney in 1979 in Sandpoint. She worked as a caregiver for over 20 years in Sandpoint and loved her patients. Later she worked at the Sagle Senior Thrift Store as a cashier until she was 88 years old.

Virginia was a member of the local Red Hat Society and the Idaho Homemakers Association.

She enjoyed dancing, fishing and collecting “mouse figurines,” she was known as “The Mouse Lady of Sandpoint.”

She is survived by four children, Clyde Smith, Sandra Colvin, Janice Marshall, and Dan Smith; two sisters, Darlene Gold and LaDonna Lickteight; 21 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-granddaughters. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and enjoyed every minute with each one.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; brother, Daniel Bogart, sister, Edie Lou Bogart; son, William Smith; and a grandson, Christopher Smith.
