May 26, 1969 — DISTRICT APPROVED

Approximately 75 percent of voters approved the Pend Oreille Hospital District May 20, leaving the next step in formation of the district up to the county commissioners.

McPHERSON TRANSFERRED

Idaho Extension Service today announced the transfer of Walt McPherson from Bonner County to Twin Falls County May 26. McPherson came to Bonner County in 1952 and has been chairman of the staff since that time. He has been very active in extension work, community organizations and First Presbyterian Church.

KOKANEE HITTING AT CITY DOCK

You can stop worrying — the Kokanee are biting!

Ed Abromeit, Pend Oreille Sport Shop, and Don Rench, Bi-Rite Drug, slipped away from work for an hour Tuesday to fish off the old city dock.

Abromeit said the bluebacks were going wild and the men caught 25 in one hour.

NEW LOOK DOESN’T COST MUCH

Bounty county’s jail has a new look.

Sheriff Robert Wilcox found enough paint in old cans in the courthouse basement to paint the identification room, cells and tank brighter colors. He also found two prisoners ready and willing for something to do. The jail was painted over the weekend with no new expense.

NEWS FROM KOOTENAI

Otto Swanstrom, who has been ill the past few months, left the first of the week for Missoula, where he entered the Northern Pacific hospital.

Harry and Albert Parsons arrived in Kootenai this week, discharged from the U.S. army. Both boys saw service “over there.” Their older brother Cecil is home on leave from California.

FRACTURES HIP IN FALL FROM HORSE

Delbert Piatt, 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Piatt, was badly hurt by a fall from a horse Friday, while plowing furrows for potatoes at the Piatt place at Sagle. He was brought to City hospital. His hip bone is broken in two places, the fracture so serious that a plate will have to be inserted to assist the bone in mending.

LADY WEARS SHERIFF’S STAR

Mrs. Sarah Wood was appointed truant officer for Bonner county this week, and now wears a deputy sheriff’s star. Officer Wood interprets the duties of her office in their broadest sense and delinquent children, particularly young girls at large on the streets of Sandpoint at night, come under her jurisdiction and will be looked after.
