BNSF, Sandpoint Kiwanis partner to establish new campsite

| May 30, 2019 1:00 AM

BNSF Railway Foundation has awarded a grant to “Friends of Stidwell”, part of the Sandpoint Kiwanis Club, to develop a brand new camp site called Camp Wilderness.

Camp Wilderness will aim to help young people gain outdoor experiences by teaching them the values of conservation knowledge, appreciation of the planet’s natural resources, general wilderness understanding, survival techniques, hiking, camping and a plethora of outdoor skills.

Currently, Camp Stidwell is logging over 4,000 user days per year with large numbers of requests unable to be filled. With Camp Wilderness, BNSF and Sandpoint Kiwanis aim to accommodate more outdoor users — particularly from kids aged 18 years old and younger — for generations to come.
