June is headed this way with plenty of good times
SANDPOINT — June is upon us — nearly, anyway — and we’ve got an early summer sampler of things to do coming your way.
Friday night, the 3-day run of the Animation Show of Shows kicks off at the Panida and Matchwood Brewing Co. hosts a very cool fireside community sing, where you can join friends, old and new, as you share songs in a session led by Kristine Rae.
On Saturday, the first day of June, POAC hosts its Masquerade Art party at the Heartwood Center and Sandpoint Parks & Rec. brings us the Sand Creek Paddlers Challenge, with registration starting at 9 a.m. at the City Beach Pavilion.
Also Saturday, the Friends of the Library hold their fabulous used book sale, The Museum is free all day and the amazing ToneDevil Bros. are playing at the Pend d’Oreille Winery that evening.
On Sunday, Annie Welle is on piano at the Pend d’Oreille Winery tasting room — always great!

Joshua Walters

Joshua Walters’ original Americana sound features a twinge of country and a shot of bluegrass.

Sandpoint Community Sing
Venue: 11362 West Pine St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 7-8:30 p.m.
Sandpoint Community Sing is a journey of songs about nature, life, love, emotions, activism, peace and the overall human experience. No singing or musical experience is necessary. Bring warm clothes — singing will be outside on the deck if the weather holds. Led by Kristine Rae.

The styles and subjects of the 15 films from six countries in the 20th edition demonstrate that in the right hands, animation can be a vehicle for personal expression as powerful and intimate as drawing, painting or sculpture. PG 13 rating for some violence.

Fireside Community Sing

Time: 7-9 p.m.
Discover the pure joy of singing with friends as Kristine Rae leads this two-hour gathering where voices are lifted as one around the bonfire.

Mostly Harmless
Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301, Cedar St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 5-8 p.m.
If you ever wished a band would play all your favorite songs, you’re in luck! Mostly Harmless, a local trio of Kelly McTavish, Jeff Poole and Ali Maverick Thomas will make you want to get up and dance.

The Groove Black
Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Brandon Watterson (Guitar), Jason Stoddard (Bass), and KC Carter (Percussion) are the dynamic long time Sandpoint local trio in action at the Beer Hall. Admission: Free for those 21 and over.
The Letter ‘B’
Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Born from a thought and a beat, a cadence and a rhyme - a bouncing ball bellowing under the big sky - the Folk/Rock/Indie-Hip-Hop group draws inspiration from the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, Atmosphere and Ray Lamontagne.

POAC’s 4th annual Art Party will feature a Collector’s Art Auction, Original Mini Painting Game, Kaleidoscope & Ovations Exhibits, Live Music & Dance Performances, Wine, Beer, & Cocktails by Trinity at City Beach, Gourmet Dinner catered by Tango Café, Appreciation Awards Presentation and a Student Scholarships Presentation. Sand Creek Paddlers Challenge
Venue: Sand Creek (register at City Beach Pavilion)
Time: Register on site from 9-9:30 a.m. Pre-race meetings start at 9:30 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m.
Join the Sandpoint Parks and Recreation Department for the Annual Sand Creek Paddlers Challenge. The Paddlers Challenge is a 4-mile paddle up and back on Sand Creek and has three separate divisions: two race divisions, solo and tandem, a recreation division for those who don’t want to leave a wake, and an SUP (stand up paddleboard) division. Trophies for first place in each division and random drawings for prizes.
Admission: $12 per boat.

Come check out the newest exhibit at the museum — ‘We Came By Rail’ — and learn more about the role the railroad played in shaping Bonner County. The museum has shed its winter coat and adorned the gift shop in its crowning spring glory, with many new items.
