Annika Rantala medals, Lady Spartans take 7th at state Saturday

POCATELLO — Priest River Lamanna girls cross country put a bow on their season with a seventh place finish at the 3A state championships Saturday.

District champion Annika Rantala continued her strong season by placing 10th with a time of 20:24 to earn medalist honors and lead the Lady Spartans.

Priest River finished five spots behind league rival Timberlake who took second and 50 points ahead of IML foe Bonners Ferry who placed ninth out of the 10 teams at state.

Senior Sharnai Hogan was the second Priest River runner to cross the finish line in 23rd. Sophomores Erika Swoboda and Ainslee Nordby and freshman Lilly Freitas came in 63rd, 64th and 65th respectively.

Freshmen Jaylein Zylstra (77th) and Olivia Tefft (79th) rounded out the Lady Spartans that competed at state.

“I was really proud of how the girls stayed consistent on their times and performances at the state competitions,” Priest River cross country coach Lance Clark wrote in an email.

The team will hold its annual awards night 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at the Priest River High School cafeteria.

Three Spartans make All-League soccer teams

Makia Fitzmorris and Lillian Nolan were named to the 2019 All-Intermountain League girls soccer team while Teagun Holycross was the lone Spartan to earn a spot on the boys soccer All-League team.
