Nov. 7, 1969 — NEAR-RECORD TURNOUT

Braving rain during most of the day, 83 per cent of Sandpoint’s 1,009 registered voters turned out to elect city officials. Incumbent Mayor Floyd L. Gray easily won an additional term despite a last minute write-in effort against him.

Sandpoint’s liveliest contest was for three four-year council seats. Only one incumbent, Lester Brown, retained his post. Ozzie Vallieres and Ron May beat out incumbents Albert Abromeit and William Lindt for the other seats. In balloting for the two-year council term, George Harper defeated Mrs. Forrest D. Wetterow by 296 votes.

HALLOWEEN PARADE WINNERS

The annual VFW and Auxiliary Halloween parade had 40 participants. Winners were Danny Lewis as a Mexican owl; Rob Stoicheff, a knight; Camilla Woods, a hunchback; and Dean Seibert, a clown. Named outstanding were Jodie Brown, Michelle Bopp and Patti Brown, as an elephant.

Commander Lloyd Kester and Carol Mahler of the Junior Girls Unit carried the colors.

SWANSTROM JOINS BANDELIN PRACTICE

Don L. Swanstrom, formerly of Naples, Idaho, has joined the law firm headed by Glenn E. Bandelin, Sandpoint attorney. The Bandelin firm is the oldest law firm in Sandpoint. O.J. Bandelin, Glenn’s father, came here from Wisconsin to enter the practice of law in 1903.

Nov. 7, 1919 — DR. PATTERSON (EDITORIAL)

Sandpoint and Bonner county have been called upon in the past five months to stand at the bier of two respected members of the profession of medicine. In Dr. Patterson’s death, we lost a real public servant, a man of sterling merit and one whose heart went out with charity for others, which, after all, is the sum and summit of life.

DR. PATTERSON GOES TO GREAT BEYOND

Dr. E.B. Patterson, prominent citizen and for 11 years a Sandpoint practitioner, died at the City hospital at 8:30 Wednesday evening, after an operation was performed in a vain attempt to save his life. The operation was performed by Dr. W. J. Pennock of Spokane, Dr. Patterson refusing to allow the responsibility of a surgical effort to fall on the shoulders of his fellow local practitioners.

Dr. Patterson, who for eight years had suffered periodically from an abscess, had planned to leave his practice this fall to have an operation, but the calling of his profession kept him on the round of his duties until his trouble became acute.

Dr. Edward B. Patterson was in his sixty-first year when death overtook him. Besides his wife and a son, Howard, he leaves a shocked and aggrieved community to mourn his loss. The funeral will be at 1:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon from the family residence at 501 Church, Rev. W.N. Byars and Rev. W.L. Livingston officiating.
