HAYDEN — “Radioflash,” the survival thriller partially filmed in Bonner County, is making its debut at Hayden Discount Cinema on Friday.

Written and directed by Benjamin McPherson, the film stars Brighton Sharbino, Dominic Monaghan, Will Patton, Fionnula Flanagan, Miles Anderson and Michael Filipowich. It contemplates a world in which a nuclear device causes an electromagnetic pulse that kills power to more than 200 million people and a teenage girl must help lead her family to survival in a dark new world.

In addition to Bonner County, “Radioflash” was also filmed in eastern Washington and northwestern Montana, according to production notes posted to the IMDb.

One of the practical special effect shots was filmed on Highway 200’s Bridge to Nowhere in Hope.

In an brief interview during production in Bonner County, McPherson said the Inland Northwest was chosen because it would likely be a path of migration for people leaving urban areas such as Spokane.

The film is also being featured as an IFC Films midnight release and can be streamed via video on demand. Below is the full synopsis posted by IFC:

“Teenage Reese (Sharbino) has a love for virtual reality role playing and a knack for beating even the toughest survival games. But when a nuclear strike causes an electromagnetic pulse that cuts off all power, water and communication to the entire western United States, Reese finds herself plunged into an all-too-real fight to survive. As pandemonium grips her city, Reese and her father (Monaghan) set out on a desperate journey in search of safety — a perilous trek through a world gone mad where every encounter with a stranger could be your last. Propelled by the ingenuity and resilience of its young heroine, Radioflash is a harrowingly unpredictable apocalyptic thriller that speaks to our precarious present.”
