Dan Eskelson was busy tilling last Thursday in the community garden spaces near city hall. He was creating planting beds. This is a huge jump in preparation for spring work on the community garden.

Investigation continuing
Detectives said the probe into the drowning death of a 30-year-old Laclede resident is still under way. Last Wednesday Bonner County Sheriff’s deputies retrieved the body of Thomas Lynn Pickle from a well at the home of Herbert Dinger. The diagnosis of drowning was made because every other cause of death was ruled out.

Zoning change favors Merritts
Bonner County Commissioners went again Planning and Zoning Board recommendations and approved a request by Merritt Bros. Lumber Company for zone changes from suburban to industrial on its mill property at Priest River.

West Pend Oreille Fire Protection Association met Friday night at city hall to decide the boundaries of protection for members, and are in a position to start operations within two weeks, if all goes according to plan.

Priest River Airport included
Application for the position of county airport manager will be accepted by the Bonner County Board of Commissioners. The county airport manager will be stationed at Sandpoint and have responsibility for that installation as well at the Priest River airport.

Shields build stud mill
Marshall “Dutch” Shields and son, Bill, of Vancouver, Wash., are constructing a stud mill on the former Merrifield property located south of the Pend Oreille River near one approach to the bridge. The Shields purchased the site from Earl Merrifield. The burner is presently being installed and they hope to be in operation in about a month.

Candles wanted
An appeal is being made by the Cultus Club for used candles, which are to be sent to Korea. Anyone having partially used candles may contribute them to the collection at the Diamond Electric.

Pessimism or fatalism?
Well, as yet we are not in the war, nor near the old Hitler firing lines, but we sure seen a bunch on the streets Saturday night more than half shot; some acted as though they might have been shell shocked, but what do we care, we shall soon be dead anyway.

Union Oil Company purchases lot, service station
The Union Oil Company has purchased the lot and service station formerly operated by T.A. Mackey and later by E.E. Chapman. This corner lot was owned by Mrs. Dora Charbonneau and the service station was leased. Under the new transaction it is expected that the Union people will erect a super-station and improve the property to great extent.

Nocturnal visits alarming
During the past week the peeker that was thought had been gotten rid of has again made his appearance and is again paying his attentions to the women of the city. During the past week he was found to have paid visits to several houses, but he contented himself with peeking in through the windows while the unprotected women in the houses were undressing or taking baths. This state of affairs has continued until all of the women are living in constant fear that they will be the next ones chosen for a visit.
