SANDPOINT — A GoFundMe account has been created to help the family of a Sandpoint veteran killed in a collision Monday.

Alan A. Ropp, 44, and his wife Lisa M. Ropp, 33, of Sandpoint were en route to a Veterans Day dinner and had stopped on Highway 2 outside Dover to turn left when their car was struck from behind and pushed into oncoming traffic. According to the GoFundMe page, the couple had just dropped their children off with Lisa Ropp’s mother, Terri Ivie, and were headed to the dinner when the collision occurred.

Alan Ropp was pronounced deceased at the scene and Lisa Ropp was initially taken to a local hospital for evaluation and later transported to Sacred Heart in Spokane, Wash. The page said she had surgery on Tuesday for a broken pelvis, collarbone, wrist, and eye socket among other injuries. After surgery they discovered she had suffered a stroke and found several blood clots, which prompted a second surgery. Lisa Ropp is currently in ICU at Sacred Heart Hospital with partial paralysis to her left side from the stroke and a multitude of serious injuries from the accident.

Ropp’s hospital bills are expected to be in the tens of thousands of dollars, with funeral expenses for Alan Ropp to be between $5,000 and $10,000. Lisa Ropp’s parents, Terri and Larry Ivie will be spending most of their time in Spokane and going back and forth between Priest River and Spokane for several weeks.

As of Thursday night, the page had raised $1,140 of its $25,000 goal.

Proceeds from the GoFundMe account will help the family cover fuel and food costs as well as other expenses.
