Plea hearing set in burglary, eluding case

SANDPOINT — A plea agreement has been reached in the case of a North Idaho man who allegedly crashed out of a high-speed pursuit after burglarizing a Sandpoint business last summer.

Shane Ryan Brown was scheduled to stand trial this month but advised the court of the pact, which is not yet part of the public record, documents indicate.

Brown, 27, was charged with burglary and felony eluding in connection with the June 4 incident. He was seen loading his Subaru with boxes of merchandise from Marketplace Antiques and a Bonner County sheriff’s deputy spotted Brown’s Subaru on the Sand Creek Byway and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, according to a probable cause affidavit. Brown allegedly failed to yield and speeds reached 100 mph on U.S. Highway 95 before he crashed in guardrail at Bottle Bay Road. Brown was arrested after a brief foot chase, the affidavit said.

Items of jewelry bearing Marketplace’s price tags were found in the vehicle, the affidavit said. Other items, including a pry bar, were found strewn about Marketplace’s parking lot.

Brown admitted committing the break-in, the affidavit said.

Brown is scheduled to enter a plea in the case on Tuesday.
