Theater groups team up for 'Hearthside Stories'

| November 14, 2019 12:00 AM

Two new one-act plays for the holidays are coming to the Panida Theater stage.

“Hearthside Stories” will heat up around the fireplace as the Panida Playhouse Players and Unknown Locals bring two new holiday one-act plays to the main stage for the second year.

In the first “Heathside Stories” play, “Thanksgiving Next” tells the story of the family’s youngest son who has returned from seminary just in time to be served up as next year’s host for Thanksgiving dinner. But the conniving siblings are in for a surprise when he has a big announcement.

“Thanksgiving Next” is written by Becky Revak and directed by Deven Fredricks.

After confirming his existence in last year’s “True Believer”, Santa Claus is coming back to Sandpoint to remind a few naysayers about the importance of Christmas spirit. But, in spite of his best intentions, Matt and Gwen don’t see jolly old St. Nick in their living room — they see an intruder who is clearly under the influence of … something. The importance of Christmas, the realness of reindeer, and what exactly constitutes kidnapping are points Santa will make to (hopefully) have a few more “True Believers” in his corner.

“True Believers” is written Chris Herron and directed by Maddie Herron.

Both “True Believers” and “Thanksgiving Next” will be performed Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 24, at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets available online at panida.org, at Evans Brothers Coffee, or at the door.
