Water resources focus of program

SANDPOINT — Sharon Bosely and Molly McCahon are the featured speakers and next weekend’s Kinnikinnick Native Plant Society meeting. The meeting, set for Saturday, Nov. 23, runs from 9:45 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and is held at Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave.

The pair will speak on preserving the water resources of the Lake Pend Oreille watershed. As part of their talk, they are scheduled to talk about the various programs and organizations that work to preserve the area’s precious water resources, including the Lakes Commission, Stormwater Erosion & Education Program, Panhandle Basin Advisory Group, and the Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper.

Bosely is the communications director for the Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper and a member of Panhandle SEEP. Before joining LPOW, she was the executive director for the Kootenai Environmental Alliance, expanding their educational outreach and initiating their water quality testing program on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

McCahon is the executive director of the regional Lakes Commission (formally Pend Oreille Basin Commission), and a member of Panhandle SEEP. Earlier, she was coordinator for Bonner Soil & Water Conservation District’s Lake*A*Syst program tasked with protecting water quality in Bonner County.
