Woman enters plea in case

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County woman is entering a plea to a charge of felony injury to a child.

Sheenagh Elizabeth Adams entered an Alford plea to the charge. Under such a plea, a defendant admits no wrongdoing but concedes a conviction could be obtained if the matter were put before a jury.

A Bonner County grand jury indicted Adams last spring on one count of injury to a child and two counts of aiding and abetting lewd conduct. She was accused of placing a 13- to 14-year-old girl in a harmful situation which allowed her to be raped by William Scott Wegner between May 2018 and January of this year.

Adams was further accused of attempting to conceal Wegner’s criminal sexual misconduct by securing a motel room for Wegner under an assumed name and attempting to conceal the teen’s pregnancy, according to court documents.

Adams was scheduled to be tried later this month. In exchange for her plea, the state is dismissing the aiding and abetting lewd conduct charges.

Adams, 35, faces up to 10 years in prison when she is sentenced on Jan. 7, 2020.

Wegner, a 40-year-old Priest Lake resident, was also indicted by the grand jury on charges of rape and lewd conduct. He was scheduled to be tried last month by a 1st District Court judge, but he failed to appear at the proceeding and is sought for arrest.

Adams is free on her own recognizance while the case is pending.
