Nov. 21, 1969 — INSULATOR THEFT

General Telephone Co. reported that more than 300 blue insulators have been stolen from their lines along highways near Sandpoint. Thieves are using ladders to reach the insulators at night.

DONALD WALLACES VISIT MIKESELLS

SSgt. and Mrs. Donald Wallace and daughter, Susan, are in Sandpoint visiting Mrs. Wallace’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Mikesell.

Mrs. Wallace, the former Carlene Mikesell, and daughter will reside at Ed’s Motel, unit 7. Sgt. Wallace, who is in the communication service of the Air Force, will leave soon for Vietnam. Upon his return, the Wallaces look forward to retirement from the Air Force after 20 years’ service.

SCHOOL FIRE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

Two more arrests marked ongoing investigation by Bonner County Sheriff Wilcox into the burglary and arson of the Southside School on Nov. 9.

The proprietor of Murphy’s Lounge in Hope was arrested Monday and charged with selling beer to a minor. He was later released on $300 bond.

A third youth, a 16-year-old from Careywood, was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property and minor consuming. The sheriff has information indicating the youth accompanied two others to the school and smashed its windows with his boots shortly before the burglary and arson-sparked fire took place.

Nov. 21, 1919 — PAID FOR DAMAGE DONE

A letter from the local American Legion post to the young man who broke up furniture at post headquarters Armistice day while the boys were at the football game brought that young gentleman to time speedily. He offered to pay for all damage done and said he had no recollection of what happened as he was drunk. His explanation and offer to pay closed the incident.

SERVICE MEN ASSIST IN RAIDS ON I.W.W.

In an I.W.W. raid of the city’s lodging houses and poolrooms last Friday, 50 ex-service men from the William D. Martin Post, American Legion, accompanied county and city police authorities in a general raid. A general combing of the county for the red element followed the raid. Known I.W.W.s (Industrial Workers of the World) will be prosecuted under the criminal syndicalism law.

R.C. CLASS GIVEN CERTIFICATES

The Red Cross Chapter course was completed Thursday, and five ladies were presented with chapter certificates, entitling them to handle home service problems. They are Mrs. L.D. Tracy, Mrs. Sara Wood, Mrs. Frank McBride, Mrs. Chris Peterson, of Sandpoint, and Mrs. Katherine Faucett of Bonners Ferry. These women will assist Mrs. Krause in handling the local field work, as occasion requires their services.
