War Memorial Field proposal is disrespectful to veterans

| November 28, 2019 12:00 AM

1. Regarding War Memorial Field and the latest diagram/layout for the “New Memorial Field.” Time for the city to review the legality of what they propose. It is my understanding that this field was given to the veterans returning from war. The county maintained the field for veterans and youth sports events only.

The county transferred it to the city for upkeep. Apparently, the city previously tried to move the field to the new high school site, but found out they couldn’t do that because they did not own it, they were just caretakers. Mayor Shelby Rognstad and company, there is no way you can ignore the history and legal original purpose for War Memorial Field. Locating the Veterans Memorial in the “additional parking area” is unacceptable.

2. Diagonal parking on Cedar Street is dangerous. Drivers cannot see oncoming traffic until they back half the vehicle length out into the street. How many accidents and law suits against the city will it take for the city to correct this unsafe situation?

3. Curious that our City Council has tied the vote at 3 to 3 on several occasions and Mayor Rognstad casts the determining vote and it always seems to go in favor of the same group of three council members. Recuse yourself from voting, Mr. Mayor and have the six council members go over the items in question until they resolve or modify the items and have a 4 to 2 vote (for example).

Wake up, people.
