Spirit Lake crash claims another life

SPIRIT LAKE — A traffic crash on Spirit Lake Cutoff Road on Nov. 24 has claimed another life, according to Idaho State Police.

A juvenile passenger who was flown via Life Flight Network to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center succumbed to her injuries, state police said on Thursday.

The minor was the occupant of a vehicle driven by John W. Hampton.

Hampton, according to ISP, was headed northbound on Spirit Lake Cutoff Road when he failed to negotiate a curve in the 5700 block and collided with a pickup truck driven by Josiah N. Thompson, a 44-year-old Spirit Lake resident.

The Chevrolet Traverse Hampton was driving entered the northbound ditch and overturned.

Hampton, a 50-year-old Spirit Lake resident, was mortally wounded in the crash, state police said.

The Chevy sport utility vehicle also held Dawn M. Hampton, 39, and another juvenile, both of whom were evacuated by terrestrial ambulance to Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene.

Thompson was not injured in the collision, state police said.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing seatbelts, according to state police.
