Dorothy Olivia Keaton, 91

Dorothy Olivia Keaton, 91, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint with Paul Graves officiating. A reception will follow at 41 South.

Dorothy was born on Nov. 27, 1927, in Kootenai, Idaho, to Carl and Martha (Aase). She grew up and attended schools locally. Dorothy married Lacey Keaton on Dec. 4, 1945 in Thompson Falls, Mont. During the early ’50s, Dorothy and Lacey owned and operated Sandpoint Post and Coal.

Dorothy’s first job prior to marrying Lacey was working in the laundry at Farragut during World War II. Later, Dorothy worked for the Bonner County School District at Farmin Elemen-tary. First, as a cook and later as the principal’s secretary. While her children attended Farmin School she was active in PTA and was a homeroom mother in her children’s classrooms. She retired from Taft’s Variety Store as a clerk and manager after working there for 23 years.

Dorothy served as a board member of the Downtown Business Association. She enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, and ceramics.

Her greatest joys were family gatherings, holidays and sharing her Christmas cookies and candies.

She is survived by her three daughters Sharon Cox of Arizona, Greta Keaton (Gary Griffin) of Spokane, Wash., and Trudy Greene (Dusty Rief) of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; son Kim (Julie) Keaton of Sandpoint; seven grandchildren, Brent (Carrie) Greene of Casper, Wyo., Alissa Freeman of Post Falls, Idaho, Kaleb Keaton (Britta Wehrle) of Hillsboro, Ore., Elizabeth “Zibby” Keaton (Matt Coolidge) of Portland, Ore., Scott (Corina) Cox of Gilbert, Ariz., Tom (Leesa) Cox of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Wendy Cox (Bob Rini) of Seattle, Wash.; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Edna Heath of Sandpoint and Carol Berg of Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lacey Keaton; grandson Andrew Keaton Griffin; sisters, Eleanor Stueve, Margaret Parnell and Alice Eich; and brother, Jack “Zeke” Armstrong.
