COEUR D’ALENE — It wasn’t the Bulldogs night Thursday.

The boys soccer team battled cold temperatures for the second straight road game and their performance showed it as they fell 8-0 to Coeur d’Alene.

It was senior night for the Vikings so they came out with a little more motivation than usual while Sandpoint was coming off a hard fought 1-0 loss to Post Falls on Tuesday in the pouring rain.

Sandpoint head coach Tanner French was proud of his team’s performance against Post Falls, but the energy they exerted in that loss ended up hurting them Thursday at Coeur d’Alene.

“Definitely, not our night,” French wrote in a text message, “but I think there were some strong individual performances to shadow the score line a bit. It happens in the world’s top leagues, and I can probably guarantee there isn’t a lack of effort on that stage. There was on ours tonight and I knew playing two night games in 48 hours, in this weather would take a toll quickly.”

This was Sandpoint’s worst loss of the season and its second defeat to Coeur d’Alene this season. The Vikings beat the Bulldogs 4-0 at Pine Street Field on Aug. 27.

The Bulldogs are now 6-6-1 this season and head into Saturday’s road game with Moscow boasting a 3-0 league record. The Bears have a 2-1 league record thanks to a 2-0 loss at Sandpoint on Sept. 17 which means Saturday’s match will most likely determine who wins the league and claims the No. 1 seed for the district tournament next week.

Kickoff is set for noon.
