'Lunch & Learn' about ransomware
SANDPOINT — Exbabylon Professional Information Technology Solutions is offering a Lunch & Learn presentation offering advice Thursday on how local organizations can thwart ransomware attacks.
It starts at 11:30 a.m. at Tango Café. Lunch will be provided.
Ransomware is a malicious form of software which can infiltrate data systems. Ransomware installers threaten to publish victims’ data or block access to data systems until a ransom is paid.
Exbabylon said cyber security threats are not a matter of “if” but “when” and can strike event the most well prepared and funded organizations.
The vendor-agnostic Lunch & Learn presentation will include strategy on how to spend IT funds to maximize impact considering the difference between prevention and preparedness, in addition to disaster recovery.
The presentation will offer counsel on when to say no to IT security services or appliance and avoid the Blinky Light Syndrome — plugging in a device which may provide a sense of security but doesn’t actually provide meaningful safeguards. There will also be information about simple steps any organization can use to manage risk and have confidence how quickly they will be able to get back to work after a security strike.
The presentation will also define ways that all employees can be part of a front-line security bulwark and understanding the role physical security — video surveillance, entry systems and alarms — can contribute to increased cyber risks.
