Cougar killed in Colburn

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County landowner killed a cougar last week.

Idaho Fish & Game Conservation Officer Matt Haag said the cat was slain in the 3000 block of Colburn Culver Road after it fought with the landowner’s dog. The cougar was treed and then shot, Haag said.

Haag said it was unclear if it was the same mountain lion which killed a miniature horse in the Rapid Lightning area earlier this month.

“We have lots of cats around these days,” Haag said.

The landowner who shot the cat had a mountain lion tag and is being allowed to retain the animal, Haag said.
