'Zombie Nest' opens
PONDERAY — The living dead have arrived in town to scare up for Halloween fun.
A project of Lake Pend Oreille High School, the haunted house is a fundraiser for the school’s trip to Washington, D.C. and New York in June 2020 for some of teacher Randy Wilhelm’s current and former students.
The “Zombie Nest” is open Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 2. The haunted house, which is open from 5-8 p.m., will be held Saturday, Oct. 19; Friday, Oct. 25; Saturday, Oct. 26; Friday, Nov. 1; and Saturday, Nov. 2 as well as on Halloween, Oct. 31.
The haunted house is located on the north side of the Hoot Owl Cafe, 30784 Highway 200, at the east end of the parking lot. The cost is $5 “per soul.”
The mobile was donated to Wilhelm for the fundraiser, and the community has helped out with other aspects of the project as well. The owner of the Hoot Owl Cafe is providing the land, and another community member donated a large amount of decking.
The group has spent the past year fundraising, primarily with plant and art sales, and are are about halfway to their $12,000 goal. If the “Zombie Nest” raises enough money, Wilhelm said he could potentially take more students as well.
The group is also accepting donations, and anyone who would like to donate can contact Wilhelm by email at randy.wilhelm@lposd.org.
