Girls swim secures first, boys take second at Idaho Falls meet

IDAHO FALLS — Sandpoint swim traveled about eight hours south Saturday to battle some of the best 4A teams in the state and they shined.

The girls team beat out Skyline and defending state champion Idaho Falls to claim first at the Bonneville High School Invitational. And they did it while crushing the competition.

The Bulldogs won two of the three relays and took three of the eight individual events to runaway with the meet title on the girls side. They finished 56 points ahead of second place Skyline and 71 points in front of third place Idaho Falls.

Senior Mikayla Schoening led the way by winning the 50 and 100 freestyle. She was also apart of the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams that placed first at the event.

Juniors Kate Bokowy and Autumn Morgan were on the winning relay teams as well and Bokowy secured the Bulldogs third individual event victory in the 200 freestyle.

On the boys side, Sandpoint finished in second as a team just nine points behind first place Idaho Falls.

The Bulldogs claimed two relay wins and one individual event courtesy of freshman Caleb Norling in the 200 IM.

Caleb, his brother, Hayden Norling, and sophomore Aidan Nielsen were all on the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams that placed first at the meet.

With the regular season over, the Bulldogs will now get ready for the district championships 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Kroc Center in Coeur d’Alene.
