PRLHS afterschool program begins
PRIEST RIVER — The afterschool program at Priest River Lamanna High School has started up again for the year.
The after school program is open to any student in West Bonner County regardless if they go to public or private schools, or are home school.
The program is completely free of charge and is open to those students in the 7th-12th grades.
This year we are offering a full hour of tutoring with credit recovery options in almost all core subjects. This means that students don’t have to wait until summer school to make up lost ground, especially for those who will be graduating in the spring, said 21st Century Community Learning Center’s Cherie Coldwell.
Coldwell said earlier that 98 students were registered for the 2018-2019 school year, with an average daily attendance of 18. The students were offered courses for credit recovery, as well as music, a writing workshop, Kung Fu, metal working, art, fishing lures, cybersecurity, drones and more.
The program was funded by a grant through the Idaho Department of Education, and while the state lacked the funding for a grant competition this year, West Bonner County School District trustees voted in June to hire Coldwell on full time to not only keep the program going, but also to be the district’s grant writer.
