SMS cross country wraps up season

COEUR D’ALENE — Sandpoint Middle School cross country competed in districts Wednesday, Oct. 16.

In their final event of the season, the Bullpups took home a third place finish on the boys side and the girls took seventh among the eight schools that competed on the 2.5K course at Ramsey Park in Coeur d’Alene.

Eighth graders Nathan Roche and Jett Longanecker led the way capturing seventh and eighth respectively in the boys race. Kasten Grimm finished just outside the top-10 in 11th and Henry Barnes captured 19th. Roche, Longanecker and Grimm all ran their best times of the season and shaved off nearly a minute off their marks from last year.

Crosby Schmidt and Will Jordan secured 21st and 23rd in the race that had 137 runners.

On the girls side, Grace Rookey was the first Bullpup to cross the finish line, claiming 13th. Terra Bode took 38th, Madison Hall placed 40th, Hannah Fisher secured 42nd and Ruby Jiles finished 46th.

“Rookey and Bode have made great progress this season and will be great additions to the high school cross country team next year,” SMS cross country coach Jake Peterson wrote in an email.
