Oct. 24, 1969 – EAGLES GIVE AWARDS

Two Eagles were honored by fellow members of Sandpoint Aerie No. 589, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and its women’s auxiliary Thursday at an Eagle-Auxiliary potluck dinner. Leo Black was selected as the outstanding Eagle by secret ballot, while the auxiliary named Magdeline Woodard in a similar manner.

The “Hometown Builders” award went to the Sandpoint Lions club, with Kirby Scribner and Frank Wright accepting the award from Eagle member Bob Woods, who is also a Lion.

SANDPOINT’S FIRST COLLEGE DAY A HIT

Educational history was made at Sandpoint Senior High last Friday with the inauguration of “College Day.” About 400 seniors from high schools in Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, Clark Fork and Priest River learned about the academic and vocational study programs of all eight of Idaho’s colleges and universities. SHS principal Richard Sodorff and Dwight Smith, boy‘s counselor at the school, both declared the day “a great success.”

DORCAS SOCIETY SEWS FOR NEEDY

The health and welfare department of the Seventh-day Adventist Dorcas Society meets Mondays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the welfare building, next to the church, 712 Cedar, spending the day making quilts and sewing for the needy.

Oct. 24, 1919 – MERCURY DROPS

A temperature fall of 33 degrees between Tuesday and Wednesday accompanied a five-inch fall of snow which came whistling into this section on the wings of a nor’easter. The mercury Tuesday registered a maximum of 62 while Wednesday’s registry showed a minimum of 29. Starting Wednesday morning with a clammy, disagreeable rain, the precipitation turned to sleet and gradually evolved into a driving snowstorm.

B.P.O.E. ELKS MAKE READY FOR OPENING

Great rejoicing is coming to the hearts of local “Bills.” November 6 has been designated as the big day for the formal opening of Sandpoint lodge No. 1376 and ceremonies galore will mark the occasion. The Liberty theater has been rented for the occasion and a zippy time is in the air.

ODD FELLOWS ANNUAL MEETING

Sandpoint sent to the annual meeting of the grand lodge of Odd Fellows this week at Boise, Mayor and Mrs. Elliott, Mayor Elliott being the delegate from the local Odd Fellow lodge; Mrs. L.D. Farmin, grand warden of the Rebekah assembly and Misses Gladys Smith and Clara Hasler, delegates from the local Rebekah lodge.
