Auction to benefit Jeff Sater

| October 25, 2019 1:06 PM

SANDPOINT — Saturday, longtime auctioneer Jeff Sater will be the recipient of a benefit fundraiser instead of helping out at one.

The benefit will begin at 3 p.m. at the Ponderay Events Center, 401 Bonner Mall Way. In addition to live, silent and baked good auctions, a dinner of smokies, sauerkraut and salads will be served for $5 per plate.

Proceeds will go to help cover medical expenses, and cover living expenses for Sater, who is expected to be unable to work while he heals. It could be several weeks to months before his body heals enough for him to go back to work, his stepdaughter Savannah Mort said.

“He is home and recovering but parts of his body will never be the same,” Mort said in a Facebook post for the benefit. “He still has several weeks until he is able work again.”

Sater, 59, was seriously injured on Labor Day when he lost control of his ATV while riding in the Cascade Saddle area near Magee. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to Kootenai Health, where he spent a period of time in the intensive care unit.

“He’s recovering well, it’s just one of those things,” Mort said. “It just takes time to heal.”

Auction items include a welcome sign and coat rack, jewelry donated by Sunshine Goldmine, Frank and Sydney Chapin and the Blue Lizard; and a whole host of baskets, including a locally made hot sauce basket, coffee baskets, spa-themed baskets, a wine basket, a dental care basket by Dr. Steve Anderson (complete with a Sonicare toothbrush), and a gift basket donated by Winter Ridge packed with goodies. In addition, the auction includes gift cards from Second Avenue Pizza, I Saw Something Shiny, Co-Op Gas & Supply, Sugared Organic, Beet and Basil, Spud’s Waterfront Grill, SM Earthwork, Copper Moose Coffee Co.
